Your Two-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco to the Sun Gate. We begin our journey by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. You'll take a scenic train to Km. 104, the official starting point of this incredible Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2 Days and 1 Night. The trek starts with a hike of about 3 hours to the impressive Wiñaywayna ruins (2650 masl), where you’ll be able to admire Inca architecture like water fountains and terraces. After lunch, we'll continue for about 2 more hours to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From here, you’ll get your first majestic view of Machu Picchu. We then descend to Aguas Calientes, where we will check into our hotel. The day concludes with a dinner and a briefing for the next day's visit to the citadel.
Day 2: The Citadel of Machu Picchu. The main event of this tour is visiting one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of modern times. After breakfast, you have the option to hike up for about 1 hour and 40 minutes or take a bus. Once at the entrance, your localtrekkersperu guide will provide a two-hour tour, explaining the history and significance of the main sites. After the guided tour, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore on your own. Optional climbs to Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu Mountain are available, but you must let us know in advance as spaces are limited. Afterward, you’ll return to Aguas Calientes to catch your train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private transport will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco. localtrekkersperu ensures a seamless journey.
