In India, 12a registration is a compulsory registration of an ngo or a charitable trust in order to be entitled to an income tax exemption. It is granted by the Income Tax Department and provides that the income of the ngo will not be subject to taxation which means that the money can be spent entirely on social activities. Having 12a approval, organizations are regarded as legal entities and credible, and they can also get grants and attract more donations by providing financial transparency and accountability.
